FESA CUP in Falcade, in Val del Biois, the valley of sport
Fesa Cup in Falcade, the alpine pearls in Val del Biois, welcomes the fourth leg of the cross-country skiing European Cup.
The Val del Biois is ready to come together and invest all its enthusiasm in the challenge of hosting the Fesa Cup, the international cross-country skiing European Cup competition events for the alpine nations, set to take place during the weekend from 17 to 19 January 2025 in Falcade.
The Falcade event will be the fourth leg of this thrilling competition, with the previous legs held in Slingia (Bolzano), St. Ulrich in Austria and Oberwiesenthal in Germany.
The event is organised by Sci Club Val Biois in collaboration with PromoFalcade Dolomiti and its organisational staff, including a large team of volunteers ready to invest all their energy in guaranteeing a successful event and coordinated by Sci Club Val Biois president Matteo Cagnati.
The packed programme set to make up this exciting Nordic skiing event, set out below, will see the participation of 500 athletes from around 20 different countries:
- Thursday 16 January: official training
- Friday 17 January: classic sprint race over a distance of 1.4 km with an elevation gain of 52 m, open to all the categories Senior, U23 and U20. The qualification races will start at 9.00 a.m. for the women and 12.45 p.m. for the men, with the finals at 10.30 a.m. for the women and 2.30 p.m. for the men.
- Saturday 18 January: 10 km individual freestyle race with three laps of the 3.45 km trail and an elevation gain of 115 mt, a timed competition for all categories, with the races starting at 9.30 a.m. The award ceremony for the first two days of the competitions will be held on Saturday evening at 7.00 p.m. in Piazza Municipio in Falcade.
- Sunday 19 January: a further shot of adrenalin, with the spectacular pursuit race starting at 9.30 a.m., with athletes taking up their places on the blocks based on the advantages accumulated the previous day. For the U20 and Senior Women categories, the race length will be 15 km, made up of 4 laps round the 3.75 km track (3.6 km + 121mt elevation gain per lap), while race length for the Senior Men will be 20 km, with six laps of 3.3 km and a total elevation gain of 690mt.
The importance of this weekend of sport is heightened by the fact that the races are part of the process used by the national instructors to select the teams and the individual athletes who will be representing Italy at the Junior and Under 23 World Championships in Schilpario (Bergamo), and the World Cup in Trondheim (Norway). The local skiing champion Fulvio Scola, who will be in Falcade in his role as trainer of the Milano-Cortina 2026 men’s group, will be lending his support to the athletes, using all his experience and professional expertise to provide them with all the advice they need to improve their performance.
Sci Club Val Biois has already organised a number of important sports events, including the Coppa Italia in mid-December, the OPA CUP, the Italian championships and other European Cup competitions, and the 10 km of runs that make up the Pietro Scola Cross Country Centre, which can also be lit for races after dark, are ready to welcome athletes and aficionados.
Over the years, these runs have witnessed the training and development of champions of the calibre of Fulvio Scola, Magda Genuin and Elia Barp, and during the Fesa Cup weekend there are high hopes for the local fans in the U18 race, with the participation of Falcade’s Vanessa Cagnati.
The Val de Biois is a delight for outdoor sports fans, offering the chance to enjoy not only cross-country skiing, but also alpine skiing, snow-shoeing, ski mountaineering itineraries, a snowpark for children, snow tubing, ice skating and thrilling descents down the La VolatA run, which each year hosts training sessions for the athletes of the Italian men’s and women’s national skiing team, including the legendary Sofia Goggia.
The Ski Bus and Fly Ski Shuttle services allow visitors to reach the ski area and the places where they can enjoy activities and experiences on the snow in complete comfort and with complete peace of mind.
